So this past CHA we were visited by When Creativity Knocks and asked about our new product and our brand new Misting Mats!

I started first by using my clear Sakura Glaze pen to create stars on my page. I used a thicker application to insure that I would have a bold outcome of stars. After it dries, it will create a barrier that will protect the background paper from any Glimmer Mist that I will spray over it. I then sprayed it with English Ivy, Jazz Blue, and a bit of Cranberry Zing Glimmer Mist.

I then rubbed the excess Glimmer Mist off of the areas that I used the Sakura Glaze Pen to reveal the areas in where the Glaze Pen resisted the Glimmer Mist.

You can see here the transfer of the resisted Glimmer Mist onto my paper towel.

This would be a great way to add a creative  journal to a page or even some fun accents. I have also added some Sakura Star dust pens (these work great on our Glimmer Chips too!) to the final project just to add a little Glimmery detail to the stars.

For one of my samples for the CHA show next week in Orlando I made a small banner using three Nature Chip Tiles.

The Nature Chip Tiles come in a set of six, each 4″ x 7″ white chipboard with lovely embossed designs.

Typically embossed designs such as these are embellished with ink to give them contrast compared to the application of Glimmer Mist.  But this time, I decided to try something different and make the designs somewhat ’resist’ the application of Glimmer Mist and retain their original color.  

The typical way to accomplish this would be to apply embossing ink and clear powder — but getting the ink to hit ONLY the raised areas on such an intricate design takes a lot of work PLUS I didn’t want the resisted area to have a shiny appearance.  I could have possibly sanded off the embossing when I was all done, or attempted some type of absorbtive batik — but what a lot of steps to achieve the look!!  So I went to the old crayon box and grabbed a white crayon to achieve the result I am looking for.

Taking the flat end of the crayon, I applied the white wax to the embossed designs by dragging the flat surface in small circles over the designs.  This application is not perfect, but it achieves the desired effect quickly and inexpensively.

Once the Glimmer Mist is applied to the framed font piece, you can see the resist in progress.

See how wonderful that is?  Easy, and shows off the intricate designs in a different light.   Look at the delicate beadwork around the edge and the small delicate dragonfly that has resisted the ink based on the crayon application.

Now you can create contrast using stamps, such as this gorgeous *new* large dragonfly, applied with a plum chalk ink.  I also applied the plum chalk ink over the top of the Framed Font that was first sprayed with Glimmer Mist and dried.

Look at this great *new* stamp set!  It coordinates with the Dragonfly Glimmer Screen too.

Supplies used:

• Glimmer Mist in Pashmina (purple), Frozen Lake (blue) and Candlelight (yellow) 
• Nature Chip Tiles
• Framed Fonts, Regal
• Framed Fonts, Nature
• White trim
• Misting Mat

Another idea is to stamp your image and create subtle highlights using the white crayon (pointy end this time!) before you apply the Glimmer Mist to your project.

I hope you give these techniques a try.  And make sure to look on the main website for the new product catalog.  I’ve got to get back to finishing samples before I get on that plane….  LOL!

We all know Glimmer Mist can be the perfect accessory when working with feminine projects… after all, what girl does not appreciate a little bit of bling and sparkly things?! Well, myself being a gal who loves all things shimmer and having 2 boys and a husband, I have had to learn to work Glimmer Mist into my masculine projects. This is one of those projects and if I do say so myself… I think it turned out pretty cool! Let’s take a closer look shall we….

So here are the details behind the photos that inspired this project. This past weekend, my husband took our two sons fishing and surprisingly, he even thought to bring the camera so he could get a few shots for me as he knew I needed some fresh pics for various projects (thanks again Drew!). Well, when I saw them, I knew they would work perfectly for the project I had in mind featuring the brand new Chip Tiles. I happen to think they are way too cool to hide in an scrapbook so I concocted this funky wall hanging.

There are lots of fun things I did on this project but I can’t give all the tricks away… nope! This is going to be one of my upcoming classes this fall but I could not bare to keep it all a secret! It will be on display in the Tattered Angels Booth at CHA for those of you there but in the meantime… I will share some of my fave tips and tricks on this project:)

One of the things I love to do with the Glimmer Chips and Glimmer Glass is I love to curl the wings on the dragonflies and butterflies in the nature sets.

Tying the chip tiles together with Jute lent to the rustic appearance of this wall hanging. Did you know a Crop-A-dile will punch holes through the ChipTiles with ease?! YUP! Give it a try:)

After applying Crackle Accents to the Tattered Angels letters, I sprinkled them with this cool new (well,new to me anyways) medium that adds a natural element to this project.

Enjoy playing with all the new Glimmer Mist colors this fall as I have here and know that you will not be disappointed with all of the fabulous new products hitting stores near you in the very near future!

Going to CHA?

Join Wendy Senger (the owner of Tattered Angels and the creator of Glimmer Mist) and myself in our Transatlantique  travel Ledger Class. For this class we have teamed up with Graphic 45 to bring you a fun filled technique packed class that is geared towards sharing tips and techniques in using Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist with the beautiful Transatlantique line by Graphic 45. This class is geared towards informing retailers of the  vast possibilities with both manufaturers products as well as educating on the many uses for Glimmer Mist. This class will leave you with a head full of knowledge  and a beautiful sample to take back to your store.

Not a retailer, but you would love to take this class? Ask your local store when they will be teaching a class like this. This class is being made readily available for stores everywhere to teach in their local setting. Tattered Angels Kits make great classes, and even if your store is not able to make it to CHA, there are still tons of kits available for them to teach form. Make sure to ask your retailer if they will be bringing these fun techniques home to teach!
