Handmade Card: So Grateful

Sometimes you just need simple, cute cards.  Here’s one I made the other day:

To make it I took some Sticky Back Canvas and had my Cricut cut out three 1 1/2″ circles.  I then sprayed them with “Key Lime Pie” and “Pieces of Heart” Glimmer Mist so that the colors blended together in places.

After I dried them with a heat gun I stamped on them using the “Regal Classic” Screen Prints and black StazOn ink.

Then I used a punch to punch out some scalloped ovals out of dictionary paper which I then sprayed with “Crushed Shells” Glimmer Mist.

To fold the ovals into a flower-ish shape I first creased it across the center vertically.

Then I creased it again across the center horizontally.

Then apply adhesive to the back side of it and adhere it to the Sticky Back Canvas circle.

Then, I threaded a button and adhered it to the flower.

Lastly I applied them to the front of my card that I had previously sewn with my sewing machine and stamped with one of my favorite stamps.  Since the back of the Sticky Back Canvas has adhesive on it you can just remove the protective backing and stick it right on the card.

how to design your own background

I am sure by now you have had an opportunity to play with some of the incredible Stamps that Tattered Angels offers.  I absolutely love them. Today i wanted to share with you one of my techniques that i came up with to create your own background.

WARNING: this technique may cause severe purchasing of  Tattered Angels stamps and glimmer mists… :)

haha!! dont say i didnt warn you :)

so first you will need:

cardstock in vanilla…. versa mark pad, heidi swapp tattered textures stamp set, Regal Classic Accents Stamp Set, brown ink pad( i used memento) glimmer mist in Apple, clear embossing powder, heat tool and scrapbook papers to complete your project.

begin by stamping your entire background using the tattered textured stamp set, allow to dry.

using your versa mark and the  Regal Classic Accents Stamp Set, stamp onto the background and apply a coat of clear embossing powder, heat with heat tool. You can see the embossed accent on the paper, but you may have to look closely

Apply a coat of glimmer mist and wipe away the excess with paper towel,

watch the magic before your very eyes….isnt that cool, the clear embossed image, has resisted the glimmer mist and you have this amazing background, don’t you love how the embossed image has also taken on the tiny textured stamp in its image, its like a mask on mask..

you can use this  technique for any card, layout, mini album, or altered project.  This technique was so highly welcomed by the stores in which i design for, that I have turned this into stamping technique classes.

I would love to see your creative works using this technique..I hope you have enjoyed this tutorial.

thank you for dropping by !

Heritage Scrapbook Page

Here’s a heritage layout I did that features my Great Grandparents way back in 1929…my Great Grandma was 27 in this photo!  Both my Great Grandparents have passed on, but this layout will be a great way to remember them.

To make this layout I started off by laying down some screens and spraying the background paper with Crush Shells and Patina Glimmer Mist.

I then sprayed the Irresistible tag  and Irresistible chipboard piece with Strawberry Shortcake Chalkboard Mist.   I cut the tag in half and then inked the edges.

Next I sprayed the back side of two pieces of ribbon with Crushed Shells and Pinecone Glimmer Mist.  I love how the Glimmer Mist completely covered the back of the ribbon, but only soaked into the thinner parts of it so that when I flipped it back to the front side it looked really cool!  I wrinkled it up into a ball before letting it dry to give it an old antiqued look.

For the flowers I sprayed some of Prima’s  white paper flowers with some of the new Glimmer Mist colors: Pomegrante, Dragonfly, and Sugar Maple.  Once they were dry I stamped on them using clear embossing ink and the Tattered Textures clear stamps and then sprinkled gold embossing powder over them.  I love how it looks once the embossing powder is heated up with a heat gun!!

Once all my pieces were ready I assembled the page and used foam adhesive to raise up some of the elements to give it a bit more dimension.  I also hand stamped my journaling and added a few other embellishments.  Here’s a close up:

New Fall Colors are Here!

The new fall colors are hot, hot, hot!  I know, it’s barely summer, but these colors can be used for anything.  I created a layout with black as my background because it really makes the colors pop.  I mean, just look at them!  Gorgeous.  There is Granite, Sugar Maple, Apple, Pomegranate, Dragonfly, and Autumn Nights.  Photos really don’t do these colors justice, and the shimmer!  You must see them in person.  They should be hitting your local LSS any day now.  So here is my layout:

Supplies used:  Black 12×12 cardstock, white cardstock for photo mats, index card, cheesecloth, Tattered Angels Screen Print stamp – classic accents swirl, dragonfly and leaf from Graceful Journey set, Glimmer Mist in Apple, Dragonfly, Pomegranite, Sugar Maple, and Autumn Nights.  I also used copper embossing powder.

I randomly sprayed Apple and Dragonfly glimmer mist onto white cardstock and stamped the dragonfly image.  I then cut out the image.

I used the same technique for the leaf images using Apple and Sugar Maple.  I then ran the cheesecloth through the overspray on my mat to color it.  I stamped the swirl image onto the cardstock with Versamark ink and then used copper embossing powder on it.  For the mats behind the photos I simply sprayed each piece of white cardstock with the glimmer mist then turned it over and rubbed it into my mat to give it full saturated color.  Arrange your elements on your layout, add your title and journaling and your done!  Here are a few close up shots so you can see that gorgeous color.

Have a glimmery day!

Faux Canvas with Multi Medium Resist

I love when I get the opportunity to sit down with some favorite products and just experiment and see where they take you.  That is what I did yesterday.  I had a vague idea of where I wanted to try but no real plan.  I had been wanting to see what would happen if I combined Claudine Hellmuth Studio Sticky Back Canvas and Multi Medium with assorted Tattered Angels goodies.  I decided to try a resist technique.

To create my resist design I used a Glimmer Screen combined with multi medium.  I laid the screen on the canvas and held it in place while I brushed on the medium.  I used both brush strokes and blotting with  a foam brush to apply medium to all of the open spaces of the screen.  I lifted the screen as soon as I was done apply the multi medium.  I continued placing it around my canvas until the entire surface was covered.  A word to the wise, wash your screen as soon as you are done while the multi medium is still wet.  If you let it dry you will have to scrape and peel it off.  It comes off, but washing is much easier!

Once the multi medium was dry, I sprayed the surface of the canvas with Vanilla Breeze Glimmer Mist.  The Glimmer Mist puddled on the areas covered with the multi medium and soaked into the canvas in the non-coated areas.

I used a cloth to wipe away the puddled excess.  The speckling on my canvas in the white areas are small spots that I missed coating with Multi Medium or where my coats were too thin.  Since this was my first attempt at this type of technique I wasn’t sure what I would get or the right application technique to use.  I actually like the effect since it makes it look more distressed.  In the future, if I wanted a crisper look, I would be sure that all of my multi medium was applied more evenly.

Next, I added stamping.  I used a tree top from the Blossom Trees stamp set and stamped using Tim Holtz Walnut Stain Distress Ink.  I chose distress ink because I wanted a very subtle image.  I also wanted an ink that would easily wipe off of the multi medium.  I tried several other inks on a piece of scrap and found some would not wipe off very well.  Distress ink wipes completely off of the resist and stays put on the exposed canvas.

I used a wet baby wipe to remove the distress ink from the white resisted areas.

I used a inexpensive wood photo frame purchased for under $2.00 at a local craft and hobby store to give my canvas a base and create the look of a stretched canvas.

I wrapped the frame tightly with the Sticky Back Canvas.  It has adhesive on it already that seemed sufficient to hold it in place, but I added a few staples at each corner just to be safe.

I finished by embellishing the canvas with ribbon, Glimmer Chips, a distressed tag, and a Tattered Trinkets key.

Oh, and how about this fun new to me discovery- For a perfect glimmery tea dyed looking tag, crinkle a manila shipping tag and then spray generously with Vanilla Breeze Glimmer Mist.  Let the tag sit and soak.  After a few minutes of soaking, dry with a heat tool and ink the edges with distress ink.

I used the Tattered Traveler Glimmer Chip alphabet to add the word HOME on my tag.  I painted each letter with Golden Goddess Glimmer Glam and then added a nice thick coat of Glossy Accents.

It is impossible to capture how amazing Glimmer Glam looks under Glossy Accents.  It is like liquid gold!

Cling Wrap Technique

I had heard about using this technique with acrylic paint and thought I’d try it with Glimmer Mist…it works great!  You get an interesting mix of the colors of Glimmer Mist you use and the glimmer goes in the cling wrap’s wrinkles making it look really cool.  I made this video to show you how I created the background paper I used on the layout below.  On it you can see the glimmer a little better then you can see in photos.

Here’s a scrapbook page I made with this technique:

I embellished the page by stamp embossing with a Tattered Angles Screen Prints stamp.  I  also sprayed Glimmer Mist on a Irresistible Chipboard heart and tucked a bit of Crepe Ribbon behind it.  There’s a bit of Glimmer Glam brushed on the “water” Thickers and the Irresistible Chipboard heart.   I also sprayed some of my favorite Marshmallow Glimmer Mist onto the patterned paper cardstock.

I’d really love to see how you apply this technique to your papercrafts or mixed media projects…add your link in the comments!!

Have a crafty day !

Create your own Transparency

My day is finally here!  I have been waiting, and waiting to post this months project because I got to use Glimmer Glam, Glaze and Chalkboard Glimmer mist.  Oh how I love these new products, not to mention the seaside collection of stamps, and glimmer glass.  I love using transparency sheets and acrylic, something about working on a clear surface just makes me happy.  One of the things that I love about Glam, Glaze, and Chalkboard Glimmer Mist is that you can use them on non-porous surfaces such as acrylic and metal, so you get so much versatility from them.  So here is what you will need for this project:

12×12 transparency sheet,12×12 white cardstock, Coastal breeze Screen Prints Stamps, Sea Glass Glimmer Glass, Glimmer mist in blue skies, vintage pink, and mimosa, Glimmer Glam in Peach bellini, Golden Goddess, Chalkboard Glimmer Mist in Mint Chocolate Chip, Beach Bingo Boards and Calling Cards, Ultra thick embossing powder, Staz-on ink in black.

Start by spraying your white cardstock with blue skies, vintage pink, and mimosa glimmer mist.

Then you are going to spray the Chalkboard Glimmer Mist onto the bottom portion of your transparency sheet.  I let it dry for about 15 minutes, then added another coat, so total dry time about a half hour.  I don’t recomment using a heat gun to speed up the drying as it will melt your transparency.

Next, stamp your images onto the transparency using staz-on ink.

I painted the backside of my glimmer glass pieces with glam in golden goddess for the shells, and peach bellini for the sun.  These dry pretty quickly so you can add another coat if you want more color and sparkle.

I placed my photos onto the glimmer misted cardstock, stamped the palm tree image in the corner, and overlayed the transparency over the page.  Then I added the title, and the calling card to the transparency sheet.   Now, for some fun stuff!  I poured out a little ultra thick embossing powder, and a little Golden Goddess Glimmer Glam, mixed them up, and spread them over the bottom edge of the glimmer glass shells and transparency sheet.  Let me tell you, when this is dry it really looks like sand!  And it doesn’t rub off, it’s on there like cement!

Voila!  Here is your finished layout:

Scrapbooking on the Wall

Hi there…its Karan here. I am so excited to be back on the Educator Blog  to give you some  tips, this time I want to share with you how easy it is to create wall art (scrapbooking on the wall) using Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist on Canvas.

This canvas came pre-primed which makes it much easier to work with.  It is an 11×14 canvas.

Supplies you will need:

Canvas-11×14, Candy Apple glimmer mist, Burnt Red Glimmer mist, Cinder Glimmer Mist, Chip Tile

Screen prints- In Flight Stamp Set

Paper Towel, Glossy accents, Your photos and choice of paper products.

I began building layers of colour on my canvas and blending layers using paper towels. The best thing about using paper towels, is you can also create a bit of a textured look on the canvas depending on how you crumple ( i like to also say smoosh) your towels..you can play around with the paper towel and the Glimmer Mists unti you achieve the look you want. It really is that easy!

In between layers, you will likely find you will need a little assistance to increase your drying time, this is when my heat gun came in handy.   I continued to build more layers of colour until I achieved the look I wanted.

I stamped the butterfly from the In flight Screen Print set onto white cardstock and applied several layers of  Brick Red and Cinder Mists until I achieved the desired look. I applied  Glossy accents to some of the flourishes on the stamped image to give dimension. I also applied layers of colour to the chip tile until i was happy with the outcome. :)

This was such an easy project to create.  I would love to see the projects you create using Tattered Angels glimmer mist on canvas.

Taking the Tattered Angels Out of the Scrap Room!

Well here it is a wonderful sunny afternoon in Saskatchewan and time for some FUN with one of my favourite  elements of Tattered Angels.

I was down in California with all the other Tattered Angels and got to see some of the fun new things released at CHA. One of the most intriguing to me was that Cricut was no longer confined to the Scrap Room and was brought to the kitchen. So this got me to thinking…..if you can have a Cricut in the kitchen then there just has to be room for Angels too.

So head to your scrap room and and come back with…….

Taking Angels into the Kitchen

Your favourite Glimmer Screen and Screen Prints.

Now I just happened to have a little ole TRIPLE CHOCOLATE TURTLE CHEESECAKE  hanging around that I thought needed some sprucing up. You know what they say its not how good a cake tastes its how good it looks that makes it. So lets get busy and turn this plain Jane cake into a Tattered Angels dream cake.

There are a couple of things that you can do with your cakes, using these two items.

First I took a Timeless Romance Stencil (with the grainy/pebbly side facing up) and laid it on the cake.

Glimmer Screen on top of Cake

Now I have to admit that when I went to get my sieve out of the drawer, it appeared to have been moved to the garage to drain oil…..I think this is what the call turnabout being fairplay for all the tools that migrated into the scraproom. Sooooo I will have to invoke the do as I suggest not as I do rule.

Take your icing sugar or perhaps cocoa powder maybe more appropriate, and put it through the sieve and finally “mist” it over top of your cake and Glimmer Screen.

Sift icing sugar finely over top.

You will note that because I didn’t have the sieve that my sprinkling  is a bit coarse. Once you have the screen finally covered carefully lift the screen from the top of the cake to reveal your image.

After screen is lifted

As you will note not using a sieve leaves a less than clear image (This is the same effect that comes from using to much Glimmer Mist on your scrapping projects).  However, even this looks pretty good and those that were lucky enough to see it at the crop thought it looked great.

So your asking me what purpose the stamps have in the kitchen, well you can take a cake that is covered with buttercream icing and gently lay your stamp on top (major emphasis on gently, to hard and the icing will just stick to the stamp). Then you can take your piping bag and outline the image in your favourite complimentary colour.

Now it is your turn to take your Tattered Angel goodies into the kitchen and play. But just a word of warning GLIMMER MIST is NOT recommended for use on food. So please don’t extend your creativeness in that direction.

Have Fun!
