how to design your own background

I am sure by now you have had an opportunity to play with some of the incredible Stamps that Tattered Angels offers.  I absolutely love them. Today i wanted to share with you one of my techniques that i came up with to create your own background.

WARNING: this technique may cause severe purchasing of  Tattered Angels stamps and glimmer mists… :)

haha!! dont say i didnt warn you :)

so first you will need:

cardstock in vanilla…. versa mark pad, heidi swapp tattered textures stamp set, Regal Classic Accents Stamp Set, brown ink pad( i used memento) glimmer mist in Apple, clear embossing powder, heat tool and scrapbook papers to complete your project.

begin by stamping your entire background using the tattered textured stamp set, allow to dry.

using your versa mark and the  Regal Classic Accents Stamp Set, stamp onto the background and apply a coat of clear embossing powder, heat with heat tool. You can see the embossed accent on the paper, but you may have to look closely

Apply a coat of glimmer mist and wipe away the excess with paper towel,

watch the magic before your very eyes….isnt that cool, the clear embossed image, has resisted the glimmer mist and you have this amazing background, don’t you love how the embossed image has also taken on the tiny textured stamp in its image, its like a mask on mask..

you can use this  technique for any card, layout, mini album, or altered project.  This technique was so highly welcomed by the stores in which i design for, that I have turned this into stamping technique classes.

I would love to see your creative works using this technique..I hope you have enjoyed this tutorial.

Sharing some Recycled..Inspiration..

Hello readers, its Karan here……and i wanted to share with you, a layout that I created using some various products from Tattered Angels…

How many of you look on the back of your scrapbook packaging.  I know when i purchase my products, i always flip it over to see whats on the back…well often times, there is something you can reuse, and recycle….So… on the back of the Bingo Boards  Packaging, is a mini set of the Bingo boards that are available in that particualr pack? Ah ha….great idea isnt it…

I cut them out and use them on cards and on this layout here. So before you toss anything, always check to see if the packaging has something you might be able to resue…

The background was white cardstock and i sprayed a layer of Wheatfields and blended some ink.  the Bingo Board was coloured with a layer of Tiger Lily , i tore the edges, then distressed with ink.

The fence was cut from my cricut, then i sprayed light layer of Suede and stamped on the fence using the Tiny Textures set of stamps..I also stamped a tree in the background from the Blossom Trees with brown ink, then i heat embossed it..the framed font is from the butterfly set..sprayed a layer of Suede…..the letters were then covered with a coat of Glossy Accents..

The family crest, was coated with a light layer of Vanilla Breeze, then i used a clear Glaze pen to pop some of the detail.

So i hope i have inspired your creativity..and dont forget, before you throw out that packaging…check the back, chances are, there is something you can Reuse.

Love You Tag

Hello everyone…its Karan here. I cannot say how excited i am each time its my turn to bring you some tips using Tattered Angels products.

When i received my recent order of stamps and mists, i couldnt wait to get playing with them.  So i created this tag using some of my new goodies and i wanted to share it with you.

For this tag I used and you will need :

Tattered Textures, Calling Cards, Postage Stamp Framed Fonts ( the postage frame fits the small calling cards perfectly) and for mist colours I used Sweet Clover, S.W.A.K, (just love the name of that one)  Jazz Blue and Red Velvet..along with some stamping ink ( i used Memento Black Tuxedo and London Fog)  Gesso, acrylic blocks, Stickles,  a 4×6 piece of cardstock and 4.5 x 6.5 piece of corrugated cardboard.

to begin, stamp your entire background of the tag using the Tattered Textures stamp using a brown ink.

next, apply layers of Sweet Clover, Jazz Blue and SWAK as shown below, Jazz Blue at the top, SWAK in the center and Sweet Clover on the bottom of the tag, you may need to have some paper towel handy to blot the excess.

Take the vine blossom large and small stamp from the Tattered Textured Set and stamp the larger vine using the black ink and it will look something like this

take the smaller vine, and the London Fog ink and stamp several images overlapping the larger vine, and it will look something like this…we have now created a “mask” with stamps and i love the look of this.

peel back top layer of corrugated cardboard, apply a coat of gesso, let dry then apply a layer of Glimmer Mist.

This is the base of the tag, Apply a coat of Jazz Blue, S.W.A.K and Sweet Clover to one of the smaller calling cards, distress the frame and letters from the Postage stamp framed font set… I also stamped some hearts from a stamp set i have, applied a coat of Red Velvet and some stickles….staple your tag to the cardboard, decorate your tag as desired.

thank you for dropping by today!

Scrapbooking on the Wall

Hi there…its Karan here. I am so excited to be back on the Educator Blog  to give you some  tips, this time I want to share with you how easy it is to create wall art (scrapbooking on the wall) using Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist on Canvas.

This canvas came pre-primed which makes it much easier to work with.  It is an 11×14 canvas.

Supplies you will need:

Canvas-11×14, Candy Apple glimmer mist, Burnt Red Glimmer mist, Cinder Glimmer Mist, Chip Tile

Screen prints- In Flight Stamp Set

Paper Towel, Glossy accents, Your photos and choice of paper products.

I began building layers of colour on my canvas and blending layers using paper towels. The best thing about using paper towels, is you can also create a bit of a textured look on the canvas depending on how you crumple ( i like to also say smoosh) your towels..you can play around with the paper towel and the Glimmer Mists unti you achieve the look you want. It really is that easy!

In between layers, you will likely find you will need a little assistance to increase your drying time, this is when my heat gun came in handy.   I continued to build more layers of colour until I achieved the look I wanted.

I stamped the butterfly from the In flight Screen Print set onto white cardstock and applied several layers of  Brick Red and Cinder Mists until I achieved the desired look. I applied  Glossy accents to some of the flourishes on the stamped image to give dimension. I also applied layers of colour to the chip tile until i was happy with the outcome. :)

This was such an easy project to create.  I would love to see the projects you create using Tattered Angels glimmer mist on canvas.

Cracked Glass Technique on a Chip Tile

Hi everyone, my name is Karan Gerber.  Words cannot express how very excited i am to be here, sharing with you my love and passion for Tattered Angel products.

I am and always will be a scrapbooker at heart. It is a passion of mine and although I also have a passion for other paper crafts including card making and altered items, my true addiction has always been in the pages i create.

Back in my stamping days, one of my most favorite medias to work with was UTEE ( ultra thick embossing enamel) I have to admit, I havent used this in a while and when Tattered Angels released their Chip Tiles, I thought UTEE would be a great way to dress them up. So I am going to show you a quick and easy way to create a vintage cracked glass look on your Tattered Angels Chip tiles and other Tattered Angels Chip products.

Supplies Needed:

UTEE, Tattered Angels Tile, Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist, ( I used Wheatfields and Tattered Leather for this technique) Versamark Pad ( or embossing pad) heat tool and paper towel to remove the excess mist

So first, I blended my image with distress ink, then applied a coat of Tattered Angels Glimmer Wheatfields mist.( I did use the paper towel sfter spraying to remove the excess mist)

I like to have a bit of control of the mist, so I sprayed some of the tattered leather on my mat, and used a sponge dauber to apply the darker mist to the areas I wanted on the chip tile. Feel free to dab off on a paper tower, especially if the dauber picked up too much colour.

So you now have an idea how the colour turned out on the Chip Tile, looks fabulous doesnt it. Take the versamark pad and press it right onto the Tattered Angels Tile.  This way I ensure that the entire tile is covered with versa mark.

Cover the chip tile with Utee, and here is what it looks like after its completed coated. It looks like a coating of sugar.

UTEE is thicker then regular embossing powder.  You can use regular embossing powder for this technique, but it will require more time and more applications.   With UTEE, I do about 2-3 layers.

Use your heat tool to melt the first layer of UTEE…

The first layer won’t be smooth. It will look pitted.  And you can stop here if you like, I myself like the look of it and used this technique in a class.

But, if you prefer to have more layers and a cleaner look, you need to work fast and apply the second and third coats to the tile while it is still warm this way more UTEE will stick to your image.

Heat your image again to melt the second layer of UTEE. You will be able to tell when you have enough layers. You will have a nice, thick, clear glossy coverage on your image.

Let your tile cool completely before moving on to the next step Again, you could definitely leave your image like this. The clear coating on the top is definitely beautiful as is.

But going onto the next and final step is where the fun begins,

When your tiles are completely cool, bend and fold the chip tiles to crack the UTEE. This step can be a little scary – you might feel like you are going to ruin all the work you just did. Dont be afraid….Just Crack IT!!!  :)  The best thing is, if you crack your tile, and don’t particularly like the way you cracked it, you can reheat the UTEE with your heat tool to smooth out the cracks allowing it to cool before you  re-crack it again.

Aren’t they all beautiful? I love the vintage feel to the cracked glass and so I used the tile on some scrapbook pages which i posted below. Imagine the possibilities.  You can use this technique on any of the Tattered Angel paper products, including the  tiles, bingo cards, Glimmer Chips, to any pages in the Glimmer Glass Albums .

on this layout, Family is Home, i only used one coat of UTEE, leaving the pitted marks on the Chip Tile.

On this layout, you can most likely notice how clear and clean the Utee looks on the Chip Tile.

Thank you for dropping by and I would love to see you give this a try :)
