Resisting with wax

Hello everyone!!! Time sure flies and it’s the end of August already! I hope August has been a super month for you.  Here in Singapore, it’s been a really busy month with the celebration of our National Day earlier this month as well as hosting the first Youth Olympics Games over the past weeks. :)

For this month, I created a mini project using Tattered Angel’s Chip Tile.

This product is sooo versatile you can use it in sooo many ways!  Mini album covers, part of your scrapbook pages, hanging mobiles for home decor, as a base for one off projects.. and the list goes on.

I will show you a simple way to resist the embossed portions of the Chip Tile and that is by using WAX.  Or.. you can use a white crayon (also wax based).  I used a candle for this project and it works fine! :)

To start off, you will need a Chip Tile and a candle.

Rub the candle onto the Chip Tile gently in circular motions.  GENTLY is key here as the embossed portions are not very deep so if you rub too hard, you will get wax on the other parts of the Chip Tile too.

Once complete, I used a Tattered Angels GLIMMER GLAZE to go over the sides of the Chip Tile and a little in the center.  (Paradise Pink)

Once the GLIMMER GLAZE has dried, it will add as a resist as well.  Notice how the WAXED embossed portions are also resisting the GLIMMER GLAZE?

I added on STARFISH Glimmer Mist, a little SUGAR MAPLE Glimmer Mist to the sides and some BE POSITIVE Glimmer Glam as well to complete the Chip Tile.

Easy ain’t it?

Once the Chip Tile is dry, you can begin embellishing the Chip Tile to your liking… here is the completed Chip Tile again:

I cut a heart out from the Tattered Angels Bingo Board and added more Glimmer Mist and Glam.  The butterflies were punched out from the remaining  portions of the Bingo Board and i used a little CHANDELIER Glimmer Glam over it.. really amps up the look of the Butterflies!

I made some other Chip Tiles with the same resist technique here..

Do try out this fun resist technique on your Chip Tiles ya?  You can also use this same technique on any embossed material.  EG:  Embossing with your favourite die-cutting machine, embossed cardstock etc.

Lotsa love…..

Glimmer Screen Emboss Resist Technique

When I heard our theme is going to be Resist Tchniques this month on the Educator blog I put my thinking cap on and one morning I woke up with an idea and it worked great :) Here is the out come and the tutorial on how to do it :)

You simply sew around the canvas fabric, then add it to your cardstock, layer the Framed Font Compact and Frame and add journaling – and there you go – a fun – textured – wallpaper like looking – Card or background.

If you want to learn more fun techniques using Tattered Angels come and visit my upcoming Tattered Angels workshops or book them for your store. Here is a place where I teach some of those and other fun Tattered Angels techniques right now:

Multi Medium Resist

Hello everyone!  CHA Summer is here!!!!  For those of you at the show, do remember to drop by Tattered Angels booth to view all their latest offerings!  Oh how I wish I was at the show now but if you’re not there, like me, remember to check the Tattered Angels blogs and facebook for updates ya?

This month I got to play with the new FALL collection of Glimmer Mist colors.  Really love the richness of the colors and how versatile they are.  I made a fun resist background for my layout and really had a great time transforming a white cardstock into a warm fall color layout.  It’s really simple and I will show you how! :)   This is how the final layout turned out…

Here are the Glimmer Mist and Chalkboard Mist colors you will need for this layout.  :

- Banana Pudding Chalkboard Mist
- Hot Chocolate Chalkboard Mist
- Apple Glimmer Mist
- Sugar Maple Glimmer Mist
- Dragonfly Glimmer Mist
- Pomegranate Glimmer Mist
- A piece of white cardstock
- Claudine Hellmuth’s Multi Medium (i used Matte)
- Tattered Angels Tailored Tags
- Paper Towels to make flower (I used a printed Paper Napkin that I found at IKEA!)

Alright here we go….!

First, use a wide bristle brush and coat the paper with Claudine Hellmuth’s Multi Medium.  I used the MATTE version but I’m sure Glossy would work as well.  You have to let the medium DRY completely before continuing.  You need a bristle brush to create the streaky effect.  You can use brushes that you buy at a paint store for painting your wall.. :)

Once the matte medium has dried, spray with APPLE, SUGAR MAPLE and some DRAGONFLY.  Use a paper towel to wipe off the parts with the matte medium.  The medium will resist the glimmer mist.  The effect is pretty similar with Gesso resist since I am using a white cardstock and the matte medium dries clear but if you use a patterned paper or a colored cardstock, you should get a translucent resist.

I also wanted to make the layout a warmer colored one, so I misted the edges with SUGAR MAPLE Glimmer Mist and HOT CHOCOLATE Chalkboard Mist.  Really happy how this turned out from a plain white cardstock!

Alright, once the background was done, I went on to mist one of Tattered Angels’ Tailored Tags.  For this tag, I coated the tag with HOT CHOCOLATE Chalkboard Mist first.  This gives a nice chalk / semi opaque finish to the tag.  Then I misted over with SUGAR MAPLE, APPLE and DRAGONFLY Glimmer Mist.

I also wanted to add a nice paper towel to the layout so I took out some Paper Napkins that I bought from IKEA.  Love the polka dots on them!  Of course, you can also use regular paper towels for this.

I misted the paper towel strips with DRAGONFLY, APPLE and POMEGRANATE Glimmer Mist.  The POMEGRANATE colored strip was actually the back ‘ply’ of the paper napkin so there was no prints on it.

Liz Hicks has a very nice video on youtube that shows you how to make these flowers.   She used CREPE Ribbon but the paper towel construction is similar.  You can view it here:

This  is a close up of how my flower turned out!

Once the flower is done, assemble your layout with your photo, add on embellishments and title and voila!

Hope you enjoyed the tutorial this month… see you again in August!

Lotsa love,

Handmade Card: So Grateful

Sometimes you just need simple, cute cards.  Here’s one I made the other day:

To make it I took some Sticky Back Canvas and had my Cricut cut out three 1 1/2″ circles.  I then sprayed them with “Key Lime Pie” and “Pieces of Heart” Glimmer Mist so that the colors blended together in places.

After I dried them with a heat gun I stamped on them using the “Regal Classic” Screen Prints and black StazOn ink.

Then I used a punch to punch out some scalloped ovals out of dictionary paper which I then sprayed with “Crushed Shells” Glimmer Mist.

To fold the ovals into a flower-ish shape I first creased it across the center vertically.

Then I creased it again across the center horizontally.

Then apply adhesive to the back side of it and adhere it to the Sticky Back Canvas circle.

Then, I threaded a button and adhered it to the flower.

Lastly I applied them to the front of my card that I had previously sewn with my sewing machine and stamped with one of my favorite stamps.  Since the back of the Sticky Back Canvas has adhesive on it you can just remove the protective backing and stick it right on the card.

A nice hint of background colour.

I cannot help adding a little hint of colour to my layouts. A little shimmer glimmer here and there, It looks like the twinkle fairy dropped by! This layout I did for my Turquoise article in Canadian Scrapbooker Magazine- summer issue 2010.  I loved glimmer misting the foil tags, the DCWV background embossed paper. And there is nothing better than custom creating your own flowers to match!!!

This layout would have been fine without the glimmer mist, but don’t you think just a hint of colour behind the photo really made it pop? I DO!

Here is  a closeup of the flowers.

Hope you enjoyed a little eye candy! I am so pumped that school is out in 3 days. LONG LIVE SUMMER!

Happy misting everyone!

how to design your own background

I am sure by now you have had an opportunity to play with some of the incredible Stamps that Tattered Angels offers.  I absolutely love them. Today i wanted to share with you one of my techniques that i came up with to create your own background.

WARNING: this technique may cause severe purchasing of  Tattered Angels stamps and glimmer mists… :)

haha!! dont say i didnt warn you :)

so first you will need:

cardstock in vanilla…. versa mark pad, heidi swapp tattered textures stamp set, Regal Classic Accents Stamp Set, brown ink pad( i used memento) glimmer mist in Apple, clear embossing powder, heat tool and scrapbook papers to complete your project.

begin by stamping your entire background using the tattered textured stamp set, allow to dry.

using your versa mark and the  Regal Classic Accents Stamp Set, stamp onto the background and apply a coat of clear embossing powder, heat with heat tool. You can see the embossed accent on the paper, but you may have to look closely

Apply a coat of glimmer mist and wipe away the excess with paper towel,

watch the magic before your very eyes….isnt that cool, the clear embossed image, has resisted the glimmer mist and you have this amazing background, don’t you love how the embossed image has also taken on the tiny textured stamp in its image, its like a mask on mask..

you can use this  technique for any card, layout, mini album, or altered project.  This technique was so highly welcomed by the stores in which i design for, that I have turned this into stamping technique classes.

I would love to see your creative works using this technique..I hope you have enjoyed this tutorial.

thank you for dropping by !

Altered Shadow Box Frame

I had this frame for a while now and wanted to do someting fun with it. When I got the amazing new Fall 2010 Glimmer Mist Colors I knew I wanted to use them for a project with the frame.

I’m sure you can find something like this at a dollar store – so here is how I altered it – I hope you have fun with the video:

Here are the Supplies I used:

Tattered Angels: Glimmer Mist Fall 2010 Colors, Glimmer Glam Chandelier, Glimmer Screens, Tattered Trinket, Rockn’ Renaissance Costum Cut Outs, Tattered Traveler Clear Compact, Framed Fonts; SCRAPBOOK ADHESIVES by 3L™ Foam Pads and Crafty Power Tape, Clear Gesso, Pepples, Prism white Cardstock

Here is the frame and some details after it’s finished:

As you can see I mounted the framed font butterfly on the Compact and then attached the key on top. Inside the compact you see some Glimmer Glam- yum yum :)

I cut out the crown and mounted it on double stacked SCRAPBOOK ADHESIVES by 3L Foam Pads. I filled the Shadow Box with pebbles.

If you want to learn more fun techniques using Tattered Angels come and visit my upcoming Tattered Angels workshops or book them for your store. Here is a place where I will be teaching some of those and other fun techniques next:

Glimmery Tea Dyed Tags

Today I want to share with you a quick technique for creating vintage tea dyed looking tags using Vanilla Breeze Glimmer Mist .

Begin by crinkling a manila shipping tag.

Lay the tag on your Misting Mat and spray generously with Glimmer Mist.  (I used Vanilla Breeze.)  Let the tag set for several minutes to allow it the color to soak in.

Pick the tag up and tap the edge on your Misting Mat to knock off the excess liquid.

Turn the tag over and spray again.  Again, let the tag set for several minutes.

Pick the tag up and tap off the excess liquid.  It will still be fairly wet on both sides.  Do not blot it off.

Use a heat gun to dry the tag.

Once dry, you can add extra impact by dragging the edges of the tag in the remaining Glimmer Mist on your mat, spray another darker color on the mat and drag the edges through it, or add distress ink (the example above features Vintage Photo Distress Ink).

The finished tag can be used in many different ways in any kind of project.  In the example above I stamped on the tag using an archival ink pad and then used assorted colors of Glimmer Mist as watercolors to color in my image.

Creating your own background with Lace

Hello everyone! Hope June has been a fantastic month for you!  For this month, I created a layout using Glimmer Mists, Glimmer Glaze and Glimmer Glam!

I love the soft look of the background and it is really simple to do!  All you need is a white cardstock and a big piece of lace.

Layer the lace on top of the cardstock.

I went shopping for a really cool piece of lace.  This one had nice big flower designs.  There are tons of different lace available and I’m sure you’ll be able to find something suitable from big designs like the one I got to really nice small patterned designs.

Next, choose your favorite Glimmer Mist colors and mist the cardstock.  For this layout, I used PASHMINA, DEEP PURPLE,  SCARLET and a little JACK O LANTERN Glimmer Mists.   As the lace is not stuck down onto the cardstock, hold the Glimmer Mist bottle slightly higher up to mist so that you get a fine layer of mist.

Tada!

By changing the colors and the design of the lace, you can change the look of the layout!

Here’s another way of using GLIMMER GLAM!  I used it to create a mat for my photograph :)   I love the consistency of GLIMMER GLAM and of course the extra pop of GLITTER! This is  LIPSTICK PINK Glimmer Glam!  Yummy!!!

Next, on to embellishing the layout.  I used a CUTOUT that had a really nice gold foil design and misted it with matching Glimmer Mist colors – PASHMINA, SCARLET and DEEP PURPLE.

Oh and I wanted to add our initials to the layout but the chipboard alpha I wanted to use had a dull gold color and I wanted to pump up the richness of the color… so I glazed it over with GLIMMER GLAZE – Saffron color.  See the image below.  The J was glazed over with GLIMMER GLAZE and the Y was the original gold color.  The Glaze really pumps up the gold ya?

Last but not least, I misted some white cardstock for my journalling.

Here is the final layout after some embellishments.  I added a little more DEEP PURPLE Glimmer Mist to the sides of the layout and edged it with CHOCOLATE COVERED CHERRIES Glimmer Mist -

I had a lot of fun with the different Tattered Angels mediums!  Hope you’ll have fun too!  Remember to grab those yummy GLIMMER GLAZE and GLIMMER GLAM once they are available at your LSS!

Till my next post – happy misting!

Heritage Scrapbook Page

Here’s a heritage layout I did that features my Great Grandparents way back in 1929…my Great Grandma was 27 in this photo!  Both my Great Grandparents have passed on, but this layout will be a great way to remember them.

To make this layout I started off by laying down some screens and spraying the background paper with Crush Shells and Patina Glimmer Mist.

I then sprayed the Irresistible tag  and Irresistible chipboard piece with Strawberry Shortcake Chalkboard Mist.   I cut the tag in half and then inked the edges.

Next I sprayed the back side of two pieces of ribbon with Crushed Shells and Pinecone Glimmer Mist.  I love how the Glimmer Mist completely covered the back of the ribbon, but only soaked into the thinner parts of it so that when I flipped it back to the front side it looked really cool!  I wrinkled it up into a ball before letting it dry to give it an old antiqued look.

For the flowers I sprayed some of Prima’s  white paper flowers with some of the new Glimmer Mist colors: Pomegrante, Dragonfly, and Sugar Maple.  Once they were dry I stamped on them using clear embossing ink and the Tattered Textures clear stamps and then sprinkled gold embossing powder over them.  I love how it looks once the embossing powder is heated up with a heat gun!!

Once all my pieces were ready I assembled the page and used foam adhesive to raise up some of the elements to give it a bit more dimension.  I also hand stamped my journaling and added a few other embellishments.  Here’s a close up:

Have a glimmery day!!
