Resisting with wax

Hello everyone!!! Time sure flies and it’s the end of August already! I hope August has been a super month for you.  Here in Singapore, it’s been a really busy month with the celebration of our National Day earlier this month as well as hosting the first Youth Olympics Games over the past weeks. :)

For this month, I created a mini project using Tattered Angel’s Chip Tile.

This product is sooo versatile you can use it in sooo many ways!  Mini album covers, part of your scrapbook pages, hanging mobiles for home decor, as a base for one off projects.. and the list goes on.

I will show you a simple way to resist the embossed portions of the Chip Tile and that is by using WAX.  Or.. you can use a white crayon (also wax based).  I used a candle for this project and it works fine! :)

To start off, you will need a Chip Tile and a candle.

Rub the candle onto the Chip Tile gently in circular motions.  GENTLY is key here as the embossed portions are not very deep so if you rub too hard, you will get wax on the other parts of the Chip Tile too.

Once complete, I used a Tattered Angels GLIMMER GLAZE to go over the sides of the Chip Tile and a little in the center.  (Paradise Pink)

Once the GLIMMER GLAZE has dried, it will add as a resist as well.  Notice how the WAXED embossed portions are also resisting the GLIMMER GLAZE?

I added on STARFISH Glimmer Mist, a little SUGAR MAPLE Glimmer Mist to the sides and some BE POSITIVE Glimmer Glam as well to complete the Chip Tile.

Easy ain’t it?

Once the Chip Tile is dry, you can begin embellishing the Chip Tile to your liking… here is the completed Chip Tile again:

I cut a heart out from the Tattered Angels Bingo Board and added more Glimmer Mist and Glam.  The butterflies were punched out from the remaining  portions of the Bingo Board and i used a little CHANDELIER Glimmer Glam over it.. really amps up the look of the Butterflies!

I made some other Chip Tiles with the same resist technique here..

Do try out this fun resist technique on your Chip Tiles ya?  You can also use this same technique on any embossed material.  EG:  Embossing with your favourite die-cutting machine, embossed cardstock etc.

Lotsa love…..

Just creating my own matchy matchy backgrounds…

Leica here to share with you a fun layout. I Love using glimmer mist to create a layout in the tones and colours i want. For this layout I changed the colour of everything with different colours of glimmer mist. (background, flowers, chipboard letters, tag) sometimes I love the ability to be so matchy matchy, other times I get a little wild.

Thanks for checking it out!

I took the summer off to totally hang with my kids, so my personal blog took a little hiatus. but come Sept. I will be back, hope to see you drop by!

Have a fabulous day!

Handmade Card: So Grateful

Sometimes you just need simple, cute cards.  Here’s one I made the other day:

To make it I took some Sticky Back Canvas and had my Cricut cut out three 1 1/2″ circles.  I then sprayed them with “Key Lime Pie” and “Pieces of Heart” Glimmer Mist so that the colors blended together in places.

After I dried them with a heat gun I stamped on them using the “Regal Classic” Screen Prints and black StazOn ink.

Then I used a punch to punch out some scalloped ovals out of dictionary paper which I then sprayed with “Crushed Shells” Glimmer Mist.

To fold the ovals into a flower-ish shape I first creased it across the center vertically.

Then I creased it again across the center horizontally.

Then apply adhesive to the back side of it and adhere it to the Sticky Back Canvas circle.

Then, I threaded a button and adhered it to the flower.

Lastly I applied them to the front of my card that I had previously sewn with my sewing machine and stamped with one of my favorite stamps.  Since the back of the Sticky Back Canvas has adhesive on it you can just remove the protective backing and stick it right on the card.

Down the Shore aka Beach Mini Album

LOL – well…you know if you are married to a New Jersey Man you learn pretty fast the term “Down The Shore” . In any event  – I wanted to show you a beach album I created for my sweet niece who just turned 16 and lives in NJ and I bet…there are days she goes down the shore with her friends. So I wanted to give her an album where she could put in some fun memories of one of those trips.

All you need for the base is the Beach Bingo Board Set

Don’t throw away the paper packaging included – we will use it as a spine for the book. Fold it

Spray it with some dark colors to cover most of the print – I used Chalkboard Chocolate and Glimmer Mist Tattered Leather

I used the amazing technique Irrisistably Technique posted by Jasmine- check it out! And then sprayed with different Glimmer Mist colors and Calkboard Colors

Attach the Bingo Boards to the Spine with double sided tape – you can do it a bit like a fan.

And then you can start embellishing and stamping – here I used the Journaling Stamp (I LOOOOOvvveee It!) from the Notes from the Garden Stamp set. I also attached a Seaside Sea Glass with a thread. And the clam from the Seaside Beach Glimmer Chips is just inked with Archival Ink.

This one is also from the Seaside Glimmer chips Collection – so yummie

There are so many options as you can imagine! Here is the book:

I also used the word stamps from the awesome Seaside Stamp Collection

And here I used the Under The Sea Glimmer Screens before Stamping with the Seaside Stamp and adding the Seaside Glimmer Glass – isn’t it awesome to have all those coordinating products to play with. So versatile!

There you have it- wether you say down the shore or at the beach :) you can create a simple and fun Seaside -Album :)

If you want to learn more fun techniques using Tattered Angels come and visit my upcoming Tattered Angels workshops or book them for your store. Here is a place where I will be teaching some of those and other fun techniques next:

A little glam and some packaging

I finally got my hands on some of the YUMMIEST Glimmer Glam ever!

I wasn’t sure what I wanted to to do with it I just knew I wanted to play.

As I was working on my Beach Day album that I was creating with the Seaside Glimmer kit,  I grabbed my bottle of Hayride Glimmer Glam and painted it across a page with my wide paint brush.  I just painted all over, not in any particular pattern. I then used my Caribbean blue Glimmer mist and misted over the entire page. The glam wasn’t even dry yet :)

I love how you can see the bigger flecks of glitter AND see the beautiful sheen of the glimmer.

The glimmer glam will resist the mist and in the thin areas it will take on some of the glimmer mist color.

The glimmer glam and glimmer mist combo made a wonderful background for my picture. I added a bit of the Seaside Sea Glass for just the right touch.

The layout needed a little more something. So i started  digging through my Seaside Glimmer kit for an embellishment for the the left side of the page. I noticed the nice label that was on my glimmer kit box. (yes i saved it and tucked it neatly in the box :0)  )

I misted the center most part of the label with Coral Reef glimmer mist and trimmed the long edges to fit the page i was working on. I tucked it in alongside the left edge of my photo as a photo mat border.

I LOVE how this turned out with this page.

Now i needed to cover the wording on the front of the label. I found a fabulous glimmer chip from my box of Seaside Beach Comber embossed glimmer chips that would work perfectly for this job. I applied a little wax for some resist and then misted with Caribbean Blue Glimmer mist. I placed the chip over the words on the label packaging to hide them.

I love the way it all turned out!

So idea of the day….don’t throw away the packaging, you never know when it might come in handy!!

If you’d like to make this fantastic album, stop by my blog to find a class near you!

Hope you like this idea. Come by daily for lots of inspiration and fun techniques.

Beach Day mini album

i was so excited to play this week.  I FINALLY got my hands on some Glimmer Glam, Glimmer Glaze and Chalkboard.  I think we’ve all been chomping at the bit to get this fabulous product in our hot little hands.

I made a small 4×6 canvas covered album.  I used 4×6 canvases, Glimmer Glam in Paprika, Glimmer glaze in Saffron and waterfall, glimmer mist from the Sand and Sun kit, new beach bingo boards & calling cards, stamps and screens.  What fun i had!

I painted around the edges of the cover of my album with the waterfall glimmer glaze. Then i added a coat of the saffron glimmer glaze and finally added the paprika glimmer glam. I made the glimmer glam thicker to show off that amazing paprika color and glimmer!

i let that dry and grabbed one of my new screens and placed it in the lower right hand corner and misted with my sand and sea glimmer mist kit.  After i removed the screen i stamped over the image with the matching stamp and Stazon timber brown.

I finally broke out my beautiful set of Copic markers that i’ve NEVER used and colored in that adorable little calling card i had.

not only did i discover that i LOVE all my new glimmery goodness but i found a new love for my copics.

I coated the whole cover including the bingo card with the sea glass clear coat. I love how it gives it just enough shine without taking away from the overall look.

I added a seaside glimmer chip. I painted parts of it with the glimmer glam, glimmer glaze, added a little wax resist and i coated the whole thing with turquoise blue glimmer mist. Hit it with a little ink and attached it to the side of the bingo board on the canvas.

I wrapped fibers around the bottom area of the album cover, added my rings and a ribbon and love how it turned out.

I added all my pages behind this cover and used another canvas for the back. Watch for this class at a store near you :)

Here is another class i will be teaching:

always check the Educator Calendar for upcoming classes in your area.

Please continue to check here daily through the month of May for our GREAT month long National Scrapbook Day events, ideas and inspiration!!

Peace out!

it’s watercolor.. it’s paint… no wait .. it’s Glimmer Mist!

Hello everyone!!!! It’s Jasmine from Singapore and this month I’m sharing how you can work with Glimmer Mists like paints!  I used a base patterned paper that looked like it was a dictionary page for this layout:

You can work with Glimmer Mists not just by spraying directly from the spray bottle… but also by using a brush and working the Mist like watercolor paints!  What I did for this layout to prepare the base patterned paper is to wet it down a little.  You can either use a spray bottle and spray the paper with water or brush water onto it with a paintbrush.

When the the paper is still damp, spray the colors of Glimmer Mist that you would like to have on your paper.  I used SUNFLOWER and KEY LIME PIE for my layout.  Use a paintbrush to spread the colors .  To blend the 2 colors together in the middle, use the paintbrush and mix the 2 colors together till they are blended.

Joscie shared this ’watercolor’ technique earlier this month and I was inspired to try it on a 12 by 12 layout.

In addition, I wanted to try working the Glimmer Mists like regular paints.  The hearts were drawn freehand and they are really simple!  Just spray some Glimmer Mists onto your craft sheet or onto a palette.  If you want to you can also damp your brush with water before using the Glimmer Mist.  I used CANDY APPLE RED  for the hearts.  :)

To finish off the layout, I dilluted the CANDY APPLE RED Glimmer Mist further with water and edged the sides of the layout with it!  Another way of using Glimmer Mists instead of regular inks to create the edging.

What I liked about the finish product is that because you are working with Glimmer Mist… you not only get a really cool watercolored paint effect, you get a really nice ‘glimmer’ overlay on your entire layout because of the mists. :)

Till next month… Have a happy misty time!

xoxo,

Jasmine

Glimmer Mist and Gesso…a perfect match!

Recently I spent some time in my studio just playing.  I had a jar of Claudine Hellmuth’s gesso and wanted badly to just slap it onto a canvas I had sitting there.  I had no direction, no idea of what I was going to do, now that is a rare moment and I really need to do that more!

As I covered parts of the canvas in gesso I needed to add color. I grabbed several bottles of Glimmer Mist and just started spraying and mixing and pooling the liquid all over.  I mixed the colors in with the gesso, some got on the canvas and immediately soaked in giving it a very vibrant color.  I kept adding layers of product, lace, buttons, vintage dress patterns and scrabble tiles until I could no more.

This project really just came about by grabbing things from all over my room, just playing.  What I discovered is just how versatile Glimmer Mist is as a paint medium.  Can’t wait to play with Glam and Glaze!

A small note:  On this bottom image, the texture on the bottom left of the canvas is gesso and glimmer mist only although it looks like material or paper.  It is just a big blob and a small metal tool to make that look.

Happy Crafting,

Glue Resist with Glimmer Mist

Hi Everyone!  Vicki Chrisman here.  I thought I’d share with you a little mini album I created using Glimmer Mist, Beacon 3-in-1 Glue,  a white 12×12 piece of paper, various patterned papers and images from Crafty Secrets Heartwarming Vintage.

I used the glue as a kind of resist on this project . I placed the glue where ever I wanted to resist the Glimmer Mist.   I used glue over the embossed dots on the background paper. and around the edges of the little book. After letting it dry . I  then added all the colors of Glimmer Mist that desired.  Using a paper towel , I dabbed off the excess, and was left with a beautiful resist technique.

I used this technique throughout the album in different places on the background and on the tags.  I also love  the way you can alter the colors of your  Patterned papers to fit your project.  Sometimes the pattern is perfect for your project ..but the color??? well not quite. Glimmer Mist solves that problem!

I have all the pages to this album posted on my blog HERE , if you are interested.

It’s a fun little project with a simple but cool technique.  Hope you give it a try!~

I love the chip tiles and their versatility.

For this little project i wanted somewhere to put my CHA pictures from last year so i made this little tri-fold album.

I took 3 chip tiles and used my handy dandy tea light to resist the embossing on the chip tile.

Then i misted it with my new favorite color Crushed Shells and then misted around the edges with Burnt Red (another fav of mine) to give it that inked edge look.  I put holes where the tiles met, tied some string through to attach them and create the trifold.

I misted the insides again with the crushed shells and then used a beautiful screen and misted over that with the burnt red.  I assembled some plain tags accordion style with canvas binding tape and misted all those with various Glimmer Mist colors , then adhered them to the center page of the trifold.

The Glimmer Chips, Framed Fonts and Glimmer Glass make fabulous embellishments for any project. I picked out a few that worked with my project and i misted them and applied them to the front of the album and the front of my tag booklet.  I love how the colors work so well together and how this book turned out.
