Resisting with wax
Hello everyone!!! Time sure flies and it’s the end of August already! I hope August has been a super month for you. Here in Singapore, it’s been a really busy month with the celebration of our National Day earlier this month as well as hosting the first Youth Olympics Games over the past weeks.
For this month, I created a mini project using Tattered Angel’s Chip Tile.

This product is sooo versatile you can use it in sooo many ways! Mini album covers, part of your scrapbook pages, hanging mobiles for home decor, as a base for one off projects.. and the list goes on.
I will show you a simple way to resist the embossed portions of the Chip Tile and that is by using WAX. Or.. you can use a white crayon (also wax based). I used a candle for this project and it works fine!
To start off, you will need a Chip Tile and a candle.

Rub the candle onto the Chip Tile gently in circular motions. GENTLY is key here as the embossed portions are not very deep so if you rub too hard, you will get wax on the other parts of the Chip Tile too.
Once complete, I used a Tattered Angels GLIMMER GLAZE to go over the sides of the Chip Tile and a little in the center. (Paradise Pink)

Once the GLIMMER GLAZE has dried, it will add as a resist as well. Notice how the WAXED embossed portions are also resisting the GLIMMER GLAZE?

I added on STARFISH Glimmer Mist, a little SUGAR MAPLE Glimmer Mist to the sides and some BE POSITIVE Glimmer Glam as well to complete the Chip Tile.
Easy ain’t it?
Once the Chip Tile is dry, you can begin embellishing the Chip Tile to your liking… here is the completed Chip Tile again:

I cut a heart out from the Tattered Angels Bingo Board and added more Glimmer Mist and Glam. The butterflies were punched out from the remaining portions of the Bingo Board and i used a little CHANDELIER Glimmer Glam over it.. really amps up the look of the Butterflies!
I made some other Chip Tiles with the same resist technique here..

Do try out this fun resist technique on your Chip Tiles ya? You can also use this same technique on any embossed material. EG: Embossing with your favourite die-cutting machine, embossed cardstock etc.
Lotsa love…..
Multi Medium Resist
Hello everyone! CHA Summer is here!!!! For those of you at the show, do remember to drop by Tattered Angels booth to view all their latest offerings! Oh how I wish I was at the show now but if you’re not there, like me, remember to check the Tattered Angels blogs and facebook for updates ya?
This month I got to play with the new FALL collection of Glimmer Mist colors. Really love the richness of the colors and how versatile they are. I made a fun resist background for my layout and really had a great time transforming a white cardstock into a warm fall color layout. It’s really simple and I will show you how!
This is how the final layout turned out…

Here are the Glimmer Mist and Chalkboard Mist colors you will need for this layout. :

- Banana Pudding Chalkboard Mist
- Hot Chocolate Chalkboard Mist
- Apple Glimmer Mist
- Sugar Maple Glimmer Mist
- Dragonfly Glimmer Mist
- Pomegranate Glimmer Mist
- A piece of white cardstock
- Claudine Hellmuth’s Multi Medium (i used Matte)
- Tattered Angels Tailored Tags
- Paper Towels to make flower (I used a printed Paper Napkin that I found at IKEA!)
Alright here we go….!

First, use a wide bristle brush and coat the paper with Claudine Hellmuth’s Multi Medium. I used the MATTE version but I’m sure Glossy would work as well. You have to let the medium DRY completely before continuing. You need a bristle brush to create the streaky effect. You can use brushes that you buy at a paint store for painting your wall..

Once the matte medium has dried, spray with APPLE, SUGAR MAPLE and some DRAGONFLY. Use a paper towel to wipe off the parts with the matte medium. The medium will resist the glimmer mist. The effect is pretty similar with Gesso resist since I am using a white cardstock and the matte medium dries clear but if you use a patterned paper or a colored cardstock, you should get a translucent resist.

I also wanted to make the layout a warmer colored one, so I misted the edges with SUGAR MAPLE Glimmer Mist and HOT CHOCOLATE Chalkboard Mist. Really happy how this turned out from a plain white cardstock!

Alright, once the background was done, I went on to mist one of Tattered Angels’ Tailored Tags. For this tag, I coated the tag with HOT CHOCOLATE Chalkboard Mist first. This gives a nice chalk / semi opaque finish to the tag. Then I misted over with SUGAR MAPLE, APPLE and DRAGONFLY Glimmer Mist.

I also wanted to add a nice paper towel to the layout so I took out some Paper Napkins that I bought from IKEA. Love the polka dots on them! Of course, you can also use regular paper towels for this.

I misted the paper towel strips with DRAGONFLY, APPLE and POMEGRANATE Glimmer Mist. The POMEGRANATE colored strip was actually the back ‘ply’ of the paper napkin so there was no prints on it.
Liz Hicks has a very nice video on youtube that shows you how to make these flowers. She used CREPE Ribbon but the paper towel construction is similar. You can view it here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BEQEOsAUQiE

This is a close up of how my flower turned out!
Once the flower is done, assemble your layout with your photo, add on embellishments and title and voila!

Hope you enjoyed the tutorial this month… see you again in August!
Lotsa love,
Creating your own background with Lace
Hello everyone! Hope June has been a fantastic month for you! For this month, I created a layout using Glimmer Mists, Glimmer Glaze and Glimmer Glam!

I love the soft look of the background and it is really simple to do! All you need is a white cardstock and a big piece of lace.
Layer the lace on top of the cardstock.

I went shopping for a really cool piece of lace. This one had nice big flower designs. There are tons of different lace available and I’m sure you’ll be able to find something suitable from big designs like the one I got to really nice small patterned designs.
Next, choose your favorite Glimmer Mist colors and mist the cardstock. For this layout, I used PASHMINA, DEEP PURPLE, SCARLET and a little JACK O LANTERN Glimmer Mists. As the lace is not stuck down onto the cardstock, hold the Glimmer Mist bottle slightly higher up to mist so that you get a fine layer of mist.
Tada!

By changing the colors and the design of the lace, you can change the look of the layout!
Here’s another way of using GLIMMER GLAM! I used it to create a mat for my photograph
I love the consistency of GLIMMER GLAM and of course the extra pop of GLITTER! This is LIPSTICK PINK Glimmer Glam! Yummy!!!

Next, on to embellishing the layout. I used a CUTOUT that had a really nice gold foil design and misted it with matching Glimmer Mist colors – PASHMINA, SCARLET and DEEP PURPLE.

Oh and I wanted to add our initials to the layout but the chipboard alpha I wanted to use had a dull gold color and I wanted to pump up the richness of the color… so I glazed it over with GLIMMER GLAZE – Saffron color. See the image below. The J was glazed over with GLIMMER GLAZE and the Y was the original gold color. The Glaze really pumps up the gold ya?

Last but not least, I misted some white cardstock for my journalling.

Here is the final layout after some embellishments. I added a little more DEEP PURPLE Glimmer Mist to the sides of the layout and edged it with CHOCOLATE COVERED CHERRIES Glimmer Mist -

I had a lot of fun with the different Tattered Angels mediums! Hope you’ll have fun too! Remember to grab those yummy GLIMMER GLAZE and GLIMMER GLAM once they are available at your LSS!
Till my next post – happy misting!
irRESISTibly Yummy!
Hello everyone! This month I am going to share with you how to put together this layout below using some really yummy Tattered Angels products! It’s really easy to make .. seriously! You can substitute the colours/stamps as well as theme of the layout to suit your own needs!

You’ll need the following :
– A Bingo Board (i looove them!)
– A Rockin Royalty Custom Cut-Out tag
– A Glimmer Glass (I used the TICKET one from the CLEAR DESTINATIONS set)
– Some Glimmer Glam (I used Safron -I know they are not out yet but do run and get them as soon as they arrive at your LSS!)
– Some Glimmer Glaze ( I used Pink Lipstick – I know they are not out yet but do run and get them as soon as they arrive at your LSS!)
– Some Glimmer Mist colors that you love. (I used Red Velvet, Coffee Shop, Tiger Lily, Bubbles, Sunflower)
– A Stamp
– Embossing Powder (I used CLEAR ones or you can use UTEE)
– Versamark / Embossing Ink.
– A Flower, some pearls and some lace.
– Butterfly punchouts
– Black cardstock
Ready?
We are first going to prep the Bingo Board. First, get a stamp that you like, ink it with versamark and stamp several times over the Bingo Board. Sprinkle some embossing powder over your stamp images.

Then, use a heat gun to melt the embossing powders till the powders melt. The stamped image will have a nice glossy glazed feel.

Use GLIMMER GLAM (Pink Lipstick in this example) with a brush and brush some layers of GLIMMER GLAM onto the Bingo Board. Do Not cover the entire board! The GLIMMER GLAM gives the board a really nice shine as it contains bigger chunks of glimmer / glitter. Use a paper towel to wipe away any GLiMMER GLAM that is sitting on top of the embossed images. The embossed images will resist the GLIMMER GLAM. (COOL EH!?).
Let the GLIMMER GLAM dry.

Once the GLIMMER GLAM is dry, mist the entire BINGO BOARD with coordinating GLIMMER MIST colors. I used RED VELVET, TIGER LILY and COFFEE SHOP. The portions that already have GLIMMER GLAM will resist the GLIMMER MIST too! This is how my BINGO BOARD looked like after misting:

Later when the BINGO BOARD is dry, I went in an added a little more GLIMMER GLAM for that extra pop of glitter as well as some more TIGER LILY GLIMMER MIST.
Next, I msted a CUT OUT tag with GLIMMER MIST and inked the sides of the tag. There is a really cool foil portion on the tag as well as some glazed portions that resists the GLIMMER MIST. Check it out!

To add on to the page, I also used the super fun GLIMMER GLAZE (Safron) and added a nice layer over the clear GLIMMER GLASS.

The GLIMMER GLASS with the GLIMMER GLAZE will take some time to dry so let it sit for awhile.
While that is drying, take out your BUBBLES GLIMMER MIST and mist the entire BLACK CARDSTOCK. I Loooooooooove how BUBBLES work with Black Cardstock as the glimmer will make the BLACK twinkle like the night sky!
Now place all the elements onto the black cardstock and embellish with a misted flower, some lace, butterfly punch-outs and pearls.

You can either leave this as a layout or cut it down and put it into a shadow box / frame! (I think I might do just that!)
Hope you enjoyed this month’s tutorial and do try it out yea? Till my next post, have a fantabulous rest of NATIONAL SCRAPBOOKING MONTH!!!
xoxo,
Jasmine
it’s watercolor.. it’s paint… no wait .. it’s Glimmer Mist!
Hello everyone!!!! It’s Jasmine from Singapore and this month I’m sharing how you can work with Glimmer Mists like paints! I used a base patterned paper that looked like it was a dictionary page for this layout:

You can work with Glimmer Mists not just by spraying directly from the spray bottle… but also by using a brush and working the Mist like watercolor paints! What I did for this layout to prepare the base patterned paper is to wet it down a little. You can either use a spray bottle and spray the paper with water or brush water onto it with a paintbrush.
When the the paper is still damp, spray the colors of Glimmer Mist that you would like to have on your paper. I used SUNFLOWER and KEY LIME PIE for my layout. Use a paintbrush to spread the colors . To blend the 2 colors together in the middle, use the paintbrush and mix the 2 colors together till they are blended.
Joscie shared this ’watercolor’ technique earlier this month and I was inspired to try it on a 12 by 12 layout.
In addition, I wanted to try working the Glimmer Mists like regular paints. The hearts were drawn freehand and they are really simple! Just spray some Glimmer Mists onto your craft sheet or onto a palette. If you want to you can also damp your brush with water before using the Glimmer Mist. I used CANDY APPLE RED for the hearts.

To finish off the layout, I dilluted the CANDY APPLE RED Glimmer Mist further with water and edged the sides of the layout with it! Another way of using Glimmer Mists instead of regular inks to create the edging.
What I liked about the finish product is that because you are working with Glimmer Mist… you not only get a really cool watercolored paint effect, you get a really nice ‘glimmer’ overlay on your entire layout because of the mists.
Till next month… Have a happy misty time!
xoxo,
Jasmine

Paper Towel love and a new workshop
Hello everyone!! It’s Jasmine from Singapore again! These days of glimmer misting goodness.. i often find myself walking along the asiles of supermarkets and stores to find different things I can use with my mists. Textures, masks, resists… you name it! One household item that we use ALOT of with mists would most definitely be PAPER TOWELS! Do you know that you can use paper towels to create interesting designs on your layouts/projects? Check this out…

Can you see those cute green circles at the top? Those are made from my paper towels! I bought some regular paper towels that had the circular designs and after adding mists to the page, I just pressed the paper towel onto the layout and voila!!!! a super cool fun design! I can sooo see everyone running out to their local supermarkets and buying all kinds of paper towels right now. LOL!
I will be sharing this technique as well as many many others in my upcoming workshop in April. The workshop will be held in Singapore at my local scrapbook store – MADE WITH LOVE.
It will be sort of a glimmer mist 101 workshop where we will build a mini album of techniques (trust me this book will make a good reference guide as you experiment with mists after the workshop) as well as 2 layouts from the techniques learnt.
Here are some photos…

great chip book idea inspired by Candy Rosenberg
Thanks for dropping by and till next month……….. HAPPY MISTING!!!
Never too late for a Valentine’s Day layout!
HEEELLLLLOOO everyone!! It’s Jasmine from Sunny Island Singapore …. my turn on the Educator’s blog once again. Since it is still February….. it is still not too late to whip up a lovey dovey page for Valentine’s Day! If you’ve not gotten your significant other anything yet, i assure you this layout idea is easy peasy!
I will show you how to make your own paper flowers with glimmer mist, how to jazz up a journal sticker and piece together a simple yet stunning layout.
Here is how the layout looks like:
READY?
You will need:
1. A cardstock for your base (I used Bazzill’s dotted swiss cardstock)
2. Lightweight paper for flowers (I used those lining paper that you will find underneath Japanese Tempura. You know those that will soak up the oil from the Tempura? this paper is perfect as it will soak in the glimmer mists on both sides of the paper!)
3. Glimmer Mists of your choice. For this layout, I used – PEPPERMINT STICK, SCARLET, COFFEE SHOP, GRAPHITE, SUNFLOWER and a little OLIVE VINE)
4. Journal sticker (I used Jenni Bowlin’s)
5. Embellishments – eg: blings, ribbons and alphas.
First, we will spray some glimmer mist onto the base cardstock to add some dimension and depth to the page. I used a mix of all the colours listed above with just a hint of Graphite.

Let the base cardstock dry or you can use a heat tool to make it dry quicker.
Next, we will work on the flowers. Freehand cut 3 circles from the lining paper. The 3 circles should be of different sizes so they can stack up. You can also use different base/bottles from your home, trace and cut the circles out OR use circle punches!

Spray glimmer mists onto the circles. The lining paper will soak up the mists and both sides will have the mist color!
Dry with heat tool and then crumple the circles up. This will give the flower some texture.

As shown above, I used a mix of PEPPERMINT STICK and SCARLET for the smallest circle, COFFEE SHOP for the medium circle and mixed GRAPHITE and PEPPERMINT STICK for the largest circle.
There are MANY ways to make paper flowers, you can fold them into cones so there is a little stem in the center and then open the petals.. or if you’re lazy like me.. just layer and scrunch them together. It works too! Heehee. I used a dab of glossy accents (from Ranger) in between layers to secure the circles.
Top the flower with your favourite bling, glitter button, bead… whatever you fancy! I made a 2nd flower to add to my layout. The photo above shows the 2nd flower (using the same glimmer mist colors, just spraying different colors onto different circles)
Okay now on to the rest of the layout. I used a journal sticker on my layout to bring out the title. As stickers are usually smooth on the surface, a trick is to sand the sticker a little so that it absorbs the glimmer mist easier.

Once you have sanded down the sticker.. spray with your favorite mist colors. I used SUNFLOWER, GRAPHITE, SCARLET, COFFEE SHOP and a little OLIVE VINE. Use a paper towel to dab any excess and droplets off. This is how my journal sticker looked like:

Once you are done with that, you can finish up your layout with your favourite embellishments. See the completed layout here:
I used some Prima Crystals to give the layout a romantic feel, some dewdrops and a thick “baker’s twine” ribbon. You can also use lace!
I hope you enjoyed this layout.. go try it… it will look really great in a frame and as a gift to your siginficant other or for a couple you know.
Till my next post in March…. happy belated Valentine’s Day and have a glimmmeristic month ahead!
Love,
Jasmine

Create your own background….
Hello everyone!!!!!! I’m Jasmine from Singapore – South East of Asia, where it’s sunny and hot all year round!
I’m so glad to be here !!! I have the great privilege of working at my LSS here in Singapore as well as teach and design workshops regularly. I scheduled this post way ahead of time as I am actually at CHA right now. It should be DAY 3 of the CHA show today and for those of you visiting CHA, remember to stop by Tattered Angels booth. The new releases are TO DIE FOR!
Okay down to the business of things….today I am going to share with you a really fun and cool scrapbook layout that has all the misting goodness from Tattered Angels! I had so much fun creating this layout using some of my favorite mist colors at the moment. This layout has no patterned paper, just a mix of glimmer mists and your favorite embellishments! I will show you how to create this background on my layout. You can use any of your favorite mist colors.

To create this layout, you will need the following
- 1 x cardstock. (I used a light grey but white works as well)
- 3-4 bottles of your favorite glimmer mists (I used Cinder, Walnut Gold, Mustard Seed, Olive Vine)
- Gesso or white paint
- Empty toilet roll (you know the cardboard roll at the end ?)
- Embellishments of your choice (i used a mix of stickers, rub-ons, rhinestones/pearls and 3D stickers)
- Photo(s)
Step 1 – Apply Gesso (if you do not have Gesso, you can use white paint) onto different parts of the cardstock. I used an old plastic card (or credit card) to spread the gesso. It’s okay if the end result looks messy coz it will look uber cool when the mists go on. You can see my image below on how much gesso i used on my cardstock. Let dry.

Step 2 – Pick the glimmer mist colours that you want to use on this layout. I used Walnut Gold, Olive Vine and Mustard Seed for the base and Cinder as an accent.

Step 3 – Mist over the gesso starting with the lightest color. If you get big blobs of mist, you can use a paper towel to dab some access off. The gesso will act as a resist giving it a really nice texture for your background.

This is how my layout looks like after mixing the glimmer mists.
You can dry the glimmer mist with a heat gun to speed up the drying process or let it air dry.

Step 4 – Punch out different size circles on unwanted cardstock scrap. Use the carstock scrap as a mask and spray the darkest glimmer mist color at various points of your layout. This will create really cool dark circles of mist on your layout. Do not worry if the circles are not fully ‘misted’. Dab with a paper towel if you get blobs.

I used Cinder Glimmer Mist for the dark circles. Once I was happy with the number of circles on my layout, I added a little more of the mist on top throughout the layout.

Step 5 – Once the glimmer mists dries (it should not take too long!), I went back to my gesso and used an empty toilet roll to add the white ‘rings’ on my circles. Having the white gesso rings really brings out the circles on the layout.

And Voila! The base of your layout is done! Add your photos, matching embellishments and you’ll have a really cool, one of a kind layout! I hope you try this out and have as much fun as I did!
As for the scrap cardstock that had the circle punch outs, do not waste them… you can punch some tags or butterflies to add to your layout. If you scroll back up to the image of my layout, you can see the 2 butterflies I punched out with the scrap piece of cardstock!

OKAY! Till I check in again….. don’t forget to check out all the latest Tattered Angels CHA Winter releases! I cannot wait to play with them and share more techniques and ideas with you all.
Have a great day!
love, Jasmine.
