Frosty Memories Album

This was such a fun book to make, and will be a great way to document those playful wintry days! These die cuts and paper are from My Mind’s Eye Be Merry collection. They worked wonderfully with the Frosty Memories Glimmer Glass! And, it was fun Glimmer Mist matching the colors of the paper! The colors I used are Olive Vine, Patina, Sea Glass and Pink Taffy. For the cover, I also used the Vintage Ice Glimmer Screens.

This is one of the interior pages. To create the streaks, I simply sprayed a foam brush with GM and painted the page. On this page too, I heated the snowlady Glimmer Glass piece with my heat tool and rounded her belly a little bit. To enhance the “iciness” of the icicles, I added some fake snow and glitter.

I love the combo of Olive Vine and Patina.  On the left is the large snowflake from the Glimmer Screens Fanciful Stencils 9 Pack. I love how the MME die cut fits perfectly on the Glimmer Glass sled!

Snowman Card

Here in Connecticut, we’ve gotten 9 inches of snow today.  Mother Nature decided to do it big for the first real snowstorm of the season!  No little dusting would do.  The trees are full.  The puppy’s fur is full of little balls of snow as we sit by the fire ‘melting’ together.  But my driveway is, thankfully, plowed.  However I have no intention of going out tonight.  So let’s play with some FROST colored Glimmer Mist instead!

To recreate a bit of the winter wonderland on this greeting card, I decided to mix it up with the surfaces a bit.  I want the shine and sparkle of ice and snow to be incorporated into its design.  So I started with a patterned cardstock, with a subtle monochromatic print as the card base.  To this I added a printed transparency with numbers printed all over it.  To me, this was reminiscent of how much snow is falling outside.  I love it when they say, ‘6 to 10 inches’.  Such a big range.  It really does seem like they are guessing.  LOL.  So lots of numbers in a subtle print.  Then I used a pretty crystal swirl, to be like the wind whipping around my scene.  And then I placed my chipboard letters and Glimmer Glass snowflakes in place.

Now it’s time to bring everybody together.  I sprayed this entire design liberally with Glimmer Mist in Frost.  I love how Glimmer Mist has such different effects on the many surfaces.  When you apply it to a glossy surface, such as a transparency, or Glimmer Glass – you get this more ‘chunky’, watercolor effect.  It dries quickly enough though.

And for the chipboard letters, I dabbed it on a little more heavilly with a makeup wedge, so it would deposit around the edges nicely.

And now onto that snowman.  He’s pretty special.  I started with the printed Frosty Memories snowman, the smaller one in the set.  I thought it would be fun to color in his carrot nose, so I brought out my Copic Markers.  But I couldn’t stop there.

I shaded around the edges of the image with BG000 and B00, pulling these together with the Colorless Blender to make them fade nicely.  Then I used B91, B93 and B99 on the scarf, to make it match my other card elements.  I used the cool gray, C0 on shadowed areas, such as near the buttons, under the scarf and under his top hat.  I knew that these markers could handle an application of Glimmer Mist, since the markers are alcohol based — so I put a light dusting of Frost onto the snowman as well.

So like snow and ice, the play of surfaces is very different when you apply Glimmer Mist to them.  There are so many lovely visual effects.  And like icicles, the transparent nature of the Glimmer Mist doesn’t eliminate the background colors – it amplifies and adds to them.  I love how just one color can help unite several pieces of your project together.

Stay warm.  But get your hands on some FROST.

Glimmer Mist and Wood.. a perfect combo

Needing ideas for some last minute gifts? This is a good time to take a look into your box of alterables for wooden pieces .. or make a quick trip out for some inexpensive wood containers at your local craft store. Glimmer Mist is the quickest way to dress up these wood peices. Spritz it on , give it a quick wipe with a papertowel, let it dry.. and your ready to embellish.
I added some patterned paper here and there, and then dressed it up with GlimmerChips, inside and out.
A quick, inexpensive..but beautiful gift for someone special!

Misted Mask

One of our very own Tattered Angels, Mary Lu Lovett, did this ceramic mask! Mary Lu  layered several colors of Glimmer Mist to create the shading, and Glimmer Screens to decorate. The hair was made with wire that Mary Lu curled herself.  We love how the Glimmer Mist works on ceramics!  Glimmer Misting on ceramic ornaments (which are readily available at craft stores) would be a fun kid project for the Christmas tree decorations,  or for gifts.

Beautiful job Mary Lu!!!

A New Angel!

We now have a new Angel hanging out with us here at the Glimmer Mist factory! This is Jack, an 8 week old Golden Doodle (Golden Retriever/Standard Poodle mix) whom Tattered Angels owner Wendy Senger just adopted yesterday. He has the cutest curls on his ears! So far, he’s been busy napping, but will sometimes wander and visit everyone for some attention.  Loves to snuggle! Here’s a pic of the Senger kiddos with their new Christmas present!

As the Holidays approach…

and the hustle and bustle of the season takes over the next few weeks, it is a good thing to feed your creative juices once in a while along the way. I consider my play time with all my Tattered Angels goodies to be very relaxing. It can be sooooo much fun to immerse yourself in Glimmer Mist and see what kind of creations come about.

The biggest thing I like to point out to all of my students is that they do not have to be complicated projects to get stunning effects!!!!! A little goes a long way and one should never be afraid to experiment!

Try your hand at a VERY simple card, perfect for any occasion (not just the holidays!). This particular card was done using the Fleur de Lis Glimmer Screen, a Fleur de Lis Glimmer Chip (Embossed Regal Collection) and 2 small corners (Embossed Regal Collection) and one of my all time favourite Glimmer Mist colours… OLIVE VINE!!!

To start, I lightly brushed my  Dark Olive Cateye Ink pad across the surface (this will highlight some of the beautiful details on each of the pieces) of each of the embossed Glimmer Chips and then sprayed them with Olive Vine Glimmer Mist. I also lightly misted a Prima Flower to co-ordinate with my colour pallete for this card.

While that was set aside to dry, I got to work on the backgound of my card. I simply positioned my Glimmer Screen on the front of my card and sprayed the Olive Vine Glimmer Mist over the surface. Keep in mind that you do NOT want to overspray. If your apply too much Glimmer Mist, it can seep beneath the screen giving a less than perfect image. Remember, you are better off to start out slowly and gradually add more colour as needed rather than apply too much as that is hard to reverse. Keep in mind that when spraying onto cardstock that there is also a possibility that it may “buckle” so again, less is more. I quite often recommend to place it under a heavy surface to flatten out. You can also “roll” the paper in the opposite direction to help to flatten it again. If you feel so inclined, break out your iron and it will be just about as flat as one can get it. Sometimes though, the warpage can give your project character… so do what is best for YOU!

At this point, the Glimmer Mist on your Chips and flowers should be dry. If it is not, feel free to use your heat gun to speed up the process. I wanted to add a bit of contrast to highlight some of the embossing on the Glimmer Chips so I used a Chestnut Roan Cateye Ink Pad and lightly rubbed it on the raised portions. Notice that I did not rub it ober the entire surface… only parts. I also went around the edges in places as well as distresses the edges on the card with this same ink pad to tie it all together.

It was then time to assemble the card! This is made extremely easy because the Glimmer Chips are self adhesive so all I had to do was Peel and Stick! Before I attached the fleur de Lis though, I tied a small piece of sheer green ribbon around the center in a co-ordinating green colour and then secured it into position. Did you notice that the sillhouette of the Fleur de Lis from the Glimmer Screen is a near PERFECT match for the chipboard embellishment that is placed within! YUP! I LOVE that!!!! Finish it off with the flower with a button center and VOILA!!! Very simple card in less than 10 minutes!!!!!

You can always change it up using a combination of multiple colours of Glimmer Mist or try some of the other patterns of screens and embellishments to suit your fancy! For a great gift idea, do up a few different cards that are generic in theme and perhaps even a few co-ordinationg envelopes, alter a beautiful box, wrap with a pretty bow, and you are sure to have a very happy recipient:)

If you are one of those people who is already prepared for the holidays and you have a lot of free time on your hands right now, consider a project similar to this…

Here is a Christmas Countdown Wall Hanging I created for this holiday season.

It features My Mind’s Eye Papers that were sprayed lightly with an assortment of Glimmer Mists. I also altered the flowers and felt letters so that everything had a hint of shimmer:)

You may have noticed that the different types of chipboard that you spray all differ in their finished effect when using Glimmer Mist. On the branch with the birdies(Riff Raff Designs), I used Coffee Shop and Creme de Chocolat Glimmer Mist while blocking off the birds. I then covered parts of the branches so I did not get any “Overspray” on them when I altered the birds using Patina Glimmer Mist.

If you look closely, you will also notice that not only were the embellishments enhanced using Glimmer Mist, but I took an assortment of Glimmer Mist to create my own coordinating paper in which I stamped all of the numbers for the countdown portion.

Each of the 25 pockets (one for each day prior to Christmas) was embellished using these altered papers and embellishments and now that it is the first of December, I will fill each pocket with a special family activity (one for each day in the days leading up to the holiday).

This is again one of those projects where a little Glimmer Mist went a long way towards pulling an entire mish mash of products together (not necessarily designed to coordinate with eack other) into a very eye pleasing project that is sure to become a favourite decoration in my home for many years to come (especially because of the memories that will be formed by doing the random activities together as a family:).

So whether you have a lot of time on your hands and want to create an in depth holiday project or only a few short minutes to complete a very simple card… do not forget to take some time as often as possible for YOU over the next couple of weeks to keep those creative juices flowing. It is sure to bring a bit of happiness not only to your day, but the lucky recipient as well(if you can bare to give them away… loL!)

Be sure to check out the Tattered Angels Design Team blogs as I know there are a plethora of other phenomenal projects featuring Tattered Angels as well! I know I am giving away some beautiful Glimmer Chips and 2 bottles of Glimmer Mist on MY blog right now so head on over for some more great Tattered Angels Eye Candy!!!

Happy Holidays!!!
