Glimmer Mist and Acrylic
Art is always a group process.
My friend Kris from Nashville helped me work through this and Carla sat on the phone with me all night while I worked out the kinks.
So before I claim all the glory, I needed to give my peeps their props.
Yes, it is possible to put Glimmer Mist on acrylic.
Should I tell ya how… Nahhh I am going to keep it a secret…. Yep, me and mine are keeping it a secret.
Go ahead twist my arm…. Nope!!! Still not gonna tell.
OK OK I will tell ya how to do it….
Sit down, this is a good one.
First, you have to have a tooth on the acrylic so how do you get one.
Are you ready…
YOU GET AN ORBITAL SANDER!!! Yes, it is an Orbital Sander with extra fine sand paper. I used 220. It gives the look of a frosted piece of acrylic. You can do one side or both sides.
I put some flowers and skeleton leaves behind this piece, so I only did the top. Then I backed it with natural paper.
Here is the process detailed out:
1. Select a piece of acrylic and sand with the orbital sander.
2. Select glimmer screen and glimmer mist.
3. If your acrylic is thick enough, you can blast it quickly with a heat gun.
4. Tap opposite side of glimmer screen with embossing ink.
5. Replace glimmer screen on acrylic and brayer down for embossing ink to stick.
6. Add Distress Embossing Powder. I used Frayed Burlap, Vintage Photo and Aged Mahogany.
7. Heat with heat gun.
8. Rub off crystals to get the aged look.
9. Spray over top of DEP with more glimmer mist. I used Iridescent Gold.
10. Embellish accordingly.
Tada!!! Now you have glimmer misted and embossed the image.

Glimmer Mist & Screens make a Garden Journal

You know, it is just amazing how things work.
But I have finally made something that my peeps say that I can share.
I had the best time making this book. It is made with the Nature Glimmer Screens.
I made this for CHA-Summer in Chicago.
I sprayed with the glimmer screens as usual and then I let the screen dry to the touch.
After they were dry, I re-hydrated the mist on the screen using another color and turned the screen over to get a positive image.
Here are a few tips on getting a nice clean image when spraying glimmer mist.
1. Leave a bit of the screen off the edge of the surface so that you can cleanly and quickly lift the screen off. This helps to avoid getting excess dripping on the page.
2. ALWAYS spray from lightest color to darkest color.
3. Heat set your colors in between sprays. This avoids muddy colors.
4. Try layering and stacking screens to add depth to the image.
until we meet again,
